Microneedling (also referred to as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) is easily one of the most effective resurfacing treatments on the market. This revolutionary celebrity treatment popular with Gwyneth Paltrow and Demi Moore is the ultimate treatment choice for anti-ageing.
The MICRONEEDLING procedure introduces a series of fine needles to micro-injure the skin sufficiently enough to stimulate the natural production of new collagen and elastin.
The body’s natural defenses to repair, produces concentrated amounts of collagen to the area of skin being treated. The resulting micro-channels allow for maximum penetration of active ingredients and nutrients to the deeper layers of the skin, helping to replenish and restore the cells needed for collagen production. The skin becomes thicker, plumper and more youthful, smoothing scars, visibly reducing stretch marks and the appearance of wrinkles. The result is healthy, glowing beautiful skin.
Microneedling effectively treats
- Aged skin, fine lines, wrinkles
- Acne scarring (burn/surgical scarring)
- Hyper-pigmentation
- Stretchmarks
- Texture
- Enlarged Pores
Clinical studies have shown Microneedling to be more effective than ablative treatments like laser resurfacing, dermabrasion and chemical peels and just as effective as non-ablative treatments like IPL and CO2 laser.

Also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, Microneedling is a minimally invasive skin rejuvenation procedure involving the use of an electronic MicroPen/Dermapen containing fine micro-pore sized needles.
-It is a natural treatment.
-Extremely safe, non-invasive and minimal downtime.
-Works well on all skin types and colour.
-Treatment can be done on any area of the body and face including, scalp, undereye, mouth and neck.

All treatments are delivered under clinical conditions. Post procedure infections are unlikely as the tiny wounds on the skin close very quickly. Post treatment advice and aftercare will be given and encouraged to be followed.
No. Because the treatment is natural there are no negative side effects. Clinical studies have shown no reported side effects in more than 150,000 procedures performed worldwide.
No. A topical anaesthetic cream is applied to the treatment area beforehand.
An electronic device (containing 12-36 micro pore sized needles) is passed gently along the treatment area, penetrating the upper layers of the skin to a depth of 0.25-2.5mm (depending on area being treated) creating tiny needle wounds. This trauma to the skin signals the body’s response to produce collagen and elastin fibers. As a result, the skin becomes fuller, reducing the appearance of scars, lines and wrinkles.
Following an in-depth consultation and Medical history intake,
The skin is prepared by cleansing and numbing the treatment area with a topical anaesthetic cream. After 30mins the numbing cream is removed and a collagen-stimulating product is applied to the skin.
The Skin is now ready for the Microneedling procedure. An electronic device (pen/stamp) containing micro-pore sized needles (12-36) is passed over the treatment area, creating tiny wounds in the skin. The speed and needle length is adjusted throughout allowing for more effective trauma in areas of scarring or deeper lines and wrinkles. The adjustability of the device also allows for delicate areas to be treated. This process typically lasts 30min.
When needling is complete a Vitamin-C serum or Hyaluronic Acid is applied to hydrate, heal and protect. A hydrating mask infused with growth factors, peptides and hyaluronic Acid is applied. A suitable hydrating cream containing SPF will be applied to protect your skin. A home-care Kit and Aftercare advice discussed.
Straight after your treatment your skin will resemble a sunburn, reddish pink with very mild swelling.
This effect can last from 24-48 hours. You may notice some pinprick bleeding and/bruising.
In some cases it can take 1 full week for your skin to return to normal. When the reddish pink colour settles in the first 24-48 hours, you will feel tightness in the skin for the next few days and in some areas visibly dry flaking skin. In most cases the skin will look noticeably brighter and smoother within a week or two.
The number of treatments required depends on individual cases, depending on your specific skin concerns. If it is anti-aging, Collagen induction requires at least 3 treatments, if it is for scar reduction you may need between 4-6 treatments. It is recommended that each treatment is carried out with 4-6 weeks in between.
Results will begin to appear usually after the first treatment. The skin will appear more radiant and bright, and the texture smoother.
More noticeable anti-aging results are normally seen when you attend for your 3rd treatment (at this stage you will have had your first 2 treatments and 8-12 weeks has passed) allowing the time needed for new collagen to be made.
Ongoing repair and improvement can extend up to 4-6 months after your last treatment. The new collagen made will last for several years.
Further treatment to maintain is recommended once every 4 months.
The procedure can be performed safely every 4-6 weeks.
The dermaroller is a hand-held device that looks a lot like a miniature paint roller covered in tiny needles. Most dermarollers contain between 280 - 360 needles, the depth of the needles on each roller can range from 0.5mm- 2.5mm. The roller selected for your treatment will depend on the area being treated. For example the most suitable needle depth to treat the face is 1.5mm.
The traditional dermaroller device is still being used in alot of clinics, and while it still gives good skin rejuvenating results the Microneedling Dermapen is a much more advanced and effective method.
The Dermapen can treat the hard to reach areas around the eyes, nose and upper lip, it is very difficult to reach these areas with the roller.
The Dermapen delivers a more customised treatment allowing for the needle depth to be adjusted throughout. This allows us to cater for specific skin concerns such as acne scarring that requires a deeper level of penetration or the delicate eye area that only requires the minimum penetration.
The Dermapen will cause no damage to the outer layers of the skin as the needles penetrate the skin vertically , whereas the Dermaroller penetrates the skin at an angle, causing more unnecessary trauma to the skin resulting in more down time.
The Dermapen has a built in motorised system allowing for speed to be adjusted accordingly, to deliver precise and accurate penetration. Most devices can penetrate the skin up to 180 times per second, whereas the speed with the Dermaroller is dependent on the handlers technique.
Being able to adjust the speed minimises damage to the skin, discomfort throughout treatment and recovery time.
Microneedling is safe on all skin types and colours because the epidermis is not damaged during the treatment. The chance of any change in pigmentation or post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation is minimal. Microneedling can be used on sensitive and fragile areas (eyes/neck/back of hands) that cannot be treated easily with other procedures.
Microneedling is unsuitable for patients who have used Accutane(isotretinoin) within the last 3 months, have open wounds, cuts, bruising or abrasions, have had radiation skin treatment within the last year, are suffering from any skin infection, or herpes simplex virus in the treatment area, are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a history of keloid or hypertrophic scars or poor wound healing.
Active ingredients like AHAs (Glycolic/Salicylic Acid), retinol or any other acidic product should not be used for 7-10 days after treatment.
Sun exposure is not recommended during the first week of healing and a high factor (50+) sunscreen must be worn.
